Inspired by nature

Yorkshire artist Tara Joy (botanical plaster relief and ceramic artist).  My work is inspired by the moors and woodlands surrounding my home town of Ilkley, Yorkshire.

My Story

Tara Joy Botanical Art and Ceramics provides handmade and bespoke pieces of art and homeware for nature lovers.

My passion for nature and flora was ignited when I moved to Ilkley, in the foothills of the Yorkshire Dales, just over 15 years ago. The amazing countryside and hedgerows inspire me to create artwork I am thrilled to be able to share with you.

Whether this be the limited-edition floral casts and ceramics I individually make by hand in my studio, or commissioned pieces of work to capture sentimental and milestone moments such as weddings and birthdays, I will try and encapsulate the beauty of the natural world.

Floral casts are especially fascinating, pieces varying from small single stem items to representations of whole fields and meadows. The flowers and foliage are pressed into wet clay, before plaster is poured in and given time to set. When the mould is removed, every detail is captured as if suspended in time forever. After carefully hand finishing, they can be painted or left natural.

I have always loved art, and having studied Art & design at College and completed a degree in Art and Textiles, I now feel both humble and fortunate to be able to pursue my dream job.
